Welsh Assembly Bans the Use of Electronic Devices

25 June 2008:  The Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones announced the banning of electronic shock collars in Wales for use to control a pet's behaviour.  This decision follows the assessment and response to a Welsh Assembly Government consultation that presented arguments on both sides of the ban.  The announcement is described as a ban on any product that induces shock from which a pet cannot escape, although there is still possible consideration for specific restricted uses, such as controlled boundary fences or under the supervision of a veterinarian and professional

The Welsh Assembly Government have yet to announce whether the sale and possession of electric shock collars should be included in the ban.
